Shell blast targets mosque amid prayer in Pakistan, four injured
(MENAFN) Local media outlet reported that a shell detonated in northwestern Pakistan amid of the Friday prayers, leaving four individuals suffering from injuries, one of whom sustained serious injuries.
According to reports from a news agency, the explosion, attributed to a makeshift explosive device occurred in South Waziristan, injuring 4 individuals, among them is Abdullah Nadeem, the region leader of the prominent religious party Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI).
The police officer in region Asif Bahader confirmed that “in the explosion, Abdullah Nadeem, the district chief of JUI, was seriously wounded,” while “three others, also belonging to the JUI, have sustained minor injuries.”
The device is said to have been planted in the mosque's pulpit, with the explosion taking place at 1:45 p.m. local time (1045 GMT).
Bahader verified that the injured individuals were promptly hospitalized, and probes into the incident are currently underway.
