Hamas: efforts underway to circumvent Gaza ceasefire covenant
(MENAFN) On Thursday, Hamas announced that emerging reports suggest fresh plans are being introduced with the intent of bypassing the ceasefire deal related to Gaza.
In a post shared on Telegram, Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated: "There are reports of new proposals that aim to bypass the Gaza agreement. Meetings with mediators in Doha are ongoing."
Reaffirming Hamas's dedication to the second stage of the deal, Qassem emphasized the group's focus on preventing a resurgence of war, securing a full Israeli retreat from Gaza Strip, and beginning the retreat from the Philadelphi Corridor.
Additionally, he accused Israel of failing to uphold the humanitarian measures mentioned in the covenant.
He concluded: "We do not want to return to war. However, if the occupation resumes its aggression, we have no choice but to defend our people."
