Police deploy resources to avert clashes ahead of Yoon's impeachment verdict
(MENAFN) On Tuesday, Police pledged to deploy all existing resources to avoid any possibility of physical dispute when the Constitutional Court announces its judgment on President Yoon Suk Yeol’s impeachment hearing, stemming from his failed offer at imposing martial law.
The acting head of the National Police Agency, Lee Ho-young stated that security measures, including police reinforcements and the possible use of expandable clubs, will be implemented on the day the verdict is announced by the Constitutional Court.
Referring to potential violence breaking out at the Constitutional Court, Lee stated: "We will mobilize all police forces to prevent the recurring of similar cases from the past, and block a physical collision between those in favor of and against Yoon's impeachment."
In a startling turn of events after the political crisis sparked by Yoon’s offer to impose martial law, his supporters forced their way into the Seoul Western District Court in January, demonstrating against the court’s verdict to place the suspended president under formal arrest.
