Polish Premier describes Trump as ‘difficult partner’

(MENAFN) Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has stated that European allies of the US now face a new challenge under President Donald Trump's leadership, as he does not prioritize Europe in the same way as his predecessor, Joe Biden. In an interview with TVN24, Tusk described Trump as the most difficult US president for Warsaw to work with, particularly due to Trump's “America First” policy, which shifts US focus away from foreign matters, including the Ukraine crisis.

Tusk emphasized that for Trump, Europe and the Ukraine conflict are not central concerns, and he expects European nations to take charge of post-conflict security arrangements with Russia. He urged the European Union to work collectively in presenting arguments that could sway Trump, noting that Poland might be better positioned to do so than other EU countries.

Tusk also acknowledged Trump's unpredictability, with both allies and critics having to adapt to his changing attitudes. Meanwhile, French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer visited the US to push for more involvement in Ukraine, but their appeals seemed to fall on deaf ears. Starmer's offer to send British troops as part of a European peacekeeping mission was met with a dismissal from Trump, who asserted that Britain could handle its own defense.

Additionally, US Vice President J.D. Vance has criticized European nations for drifting away from shared values like free speech and democracy, warning that if this trend continues, the US may no longer consider them reliable allies.
