Somalia, Ethiopia Eye Closer Bonds

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) CAIRO, Feb 27 (KUNA) -- Somalia and Ethiopia on Thursday echoed mutual determination to bolster their bilateral relations to serve common interests, strengthen peace and security efforts and prop up regional integration.
This came in a joint statement issued by both Somalia and Ethiopian government following Ethiopian Prime Minister Abiy Ahmad to Mogadishu on Thursday, according to the Somalia's official news agency.
The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation for mutual benefit, said the statement.
Recognizing the deep historical ties between their peoples and the shared border that connects them, they emphasized the importance of building trust through enhanced diplomatic, economic, and social cooperation, it added.
They expressed their commitment to implementing strategic infrastructure projects to ensure sustainable development, economic integration and strengthen people-to-people ties.
They also welcomed the understanding reached between the Somali National Army (SNA) and Ethiopian National Defense Forces (ENDF) commanders, recognizing it as a critical step toward enhancing security cooperation and fostering stability in the region. (end)
