Vatican Rejects US Plan To Displace Palestinians, Calls For Two-State Solution
(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency)
Amman, Feb. 14 (Petra)-- Vatican Secretary of State Cardinal Pietro Parolin criticized the US plan aiming at driving Palestinians out of Gaza and taking over the enclave.
Cardinal Parolin said yesterday that "the Palestinians must be allowed to remain on their land and not be deported," according to the official Vatican news agency.
Cardinal Parolin reiterated the Vatican's desire for a two-state solution to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, saying, "Everyone who was born and lived in Gaza must remain on its land."
Two days prior to Cardinal Parolin's remarks, Pope Francis issued an uncommon open letter denouncing the United States' recent crackdown on migrants residing in the country, harshly criticizing the calls.
During his visit to Jordan last month, Cardinal Parolin said that the Vatican and Jordan have a great relationship.
He thanked His Majesty King Abdullah II in an interview with the Jordan News Agency (Petra) for his tremendous political and diplomatic efforts as well as the humanitarian assistance he offers whenever there is unrest in this region, particularly in Gaza.
According to him, the opening of the Baptism Church at the Baptism Site is a historic occasion for the church because it is situated on property that saw a significant event in Jesus Christ's life. It also sends a strong message that emphasizes Jordan's vital role in the region and presents it as a secure nation where all of its constituents coexist peacefully.
