Trump’s administration plans on holding Ukraine discussions very soon

(MENAFN) This week, key US officials, including the Secretary of State, Secretary of Defense, Vice President, and the US special envoy to Europe, will visit the continent to discuss strategies for resolving the Russia-Ukraine conflict, National Security Adviser Mike Waltz announced. Their goal is to facilitate negotiations between both sides to bring an end to the war.

In an NBC interview, Waltz emphasized that the discussions aim to explore the specifics of ending the conflict, though he did not confirm whether US President Donald trump had spoken with Russian President Vladimir Putin on the matter. While Trump claims to have had phone conversations with Putin, he has refused to provide further details, and the Kremlin has not commented on the talks. When asked about his contact with Putin, Trump told reporters, "I’d better not say," but expressed his belief that Putin wanted to halt the fighting.

Waltz also highlighted the sensitive nature of the ongoing behind-the-scenes discussions, noting that Trump has spoken with several global leaders, including Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Chinese President Xi Jinping, and officials from the Middle East, all of whom are ready to support Trump's efforts to end the war.

Washington’s approach envisions European nations taking on security responsibilities for Ukraine moving forward. Waltz stated that the Europeans will need to manage the security guarantees, while Trump will focus on ending the conflict. Trump has repeatedly promised to quickly bring the war to an end, offering to meet with Putin, who has expressed openness to talks.

Though Trump has yet to publicly outline the details of his peace plan, reports suggest it may include freezing the conflict along current front lines, creating a demilitarized zone with European peacekeepers, and suspending Ukraine's NATO aspirations. Russia, however, insists that any peace settlement must reflect the current territorial situation and require Ukraine to adopt permanent neutrality, demilitarization, and denazification.
