Hamas condemns Trump’s proposal to seize Gaza Strip, displace Palestinians

(MENAFN) The Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, condemned U.S. President Donald Trump’s proposal to seize the Gaza Strip and displace Palestinians, affirming that the Palestinian people will never allow any country to occupy their land or impose guardianship over it. In a statement released on Wednesday, Hamas rejected Trump's intentions, labeling them as hostile to the Palestinian cause and destabilizing for the region. The movement emphasized that Trump's comments would only exacerbate tensions. It reiterated that Palestinians would not tolerate any foreign Occupation of their land and reaffirmed their commitment to the liberation of Palestine, with Jerusalem as its capital.

Hamas called for the U.S. administration and President Trump to retract their "irresponsible" remarks, which the movement claimed violate international law and the natural rights of the Palestinian people. The organization also urged the Arab League, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the United Nations to convene urgently to address Trump's statements and take decisive action to defend Palestinian rights, particularly their right to self-determination and the establishment of a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital. Since January 25, 2025, Trump has been pushing a controversial plan to relocate Gaza’s Palestinians to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan, both of which have rejected the proposal. Additionally, many Arab states and international organizations have joined in opposing the plan.

A ceasefire agreement between Hamas and Israel, which took effect on January 19, 2025, includes a phased process with mediation from Egypt, Qatar, and U.S. support. Since October 2023, Israel’s actions, backed by the U.S., have resulted in over 159,000 Palestinian casualties, including many children and women, and over 14,000 people missing.
