Annual Report Highlights Agricultural, Food Security Achievements Under Economic Modernization Vision

Amman, February 5 (Petra) – An annual progress report on the Economic Modernization Vision (2023-2025) outlined key advancements in Jordan's agricultural sector and food security initiatives over the past year.
According to the report published on the Prime Ministry's website, a Food Security Information Management System was launched to monitor and analyze food security trends, track 33 local and 68 global indicators, and issue analytical reports and early warning alerts to support proactive decision-making.
Additionally, a comprehensive national food security database was established.
As part of efforts to integrate modern agricultural technologies, the Al Tanour Dam and Al Mujib Dam projects saw the establishment of pioneering business units utilizing advanced agricultural techniques, including hydroponics, creating 90 job opportunities in rural areas.
Infrastructure development in Jordan's Badia included the construction and maintenance of 49 excavations and earthen dams, adding 1.5 million cubic meters of water storage capacity. Additionally, new legislation for agricultural product tracking was issued to ensure product safety, enhance competitiveness, and improve export potential.
To strengthen supply chains, agreements were signed with nine agricultural alliances to support local industries and contract farming, benefiting over 14,000 farmers. A digital tracking system for agricultural and food products was also launched to enhance transparency, attract investment, and bolster environmental sustainability.
In support of rural and small-scale farmers, construction was completed for the Irbid and Amman Rural and Badia Development Exhibitions, with the latter located in the Seventh Circle area. These centers aim to promote rural products, particularly those produced by women and small farmers. Additionally, two agricultural processing factories were completed in the southern Jordan Valley, with production line installations underway. These facilities are expected to generate at least 200 jobs.
Further developments included the launch of the National Seed Bank, designed to preserve local seed varieties, enhance genetic research, and support agricultural sustainability. Efforts to expand green spaces continued with a nationwide initiative to plant one million trees.
The report also highlighted financial measures supporting agricultural resilience, including the Solidarity Fund draft law to mitigate agricultural risks. Additionally, refrigerated warehouses in the Juwaida Silos Complex were rehabilitated, optimizing storage capacity and efficiency.
Investment in agricultural infrastructure included increasing grain storage capacity in Al-Ghabawi by 100,000 tons. Loans totaling JD7.7 million were granted for rehabilitating irrigated and rainfed agricultural lands, while 6.1 million Jordanian dinars were allocated to water resource development and modern irrigation technologies, benefiting 656 borrowers.
The project to stimulate growth in the agricultural sector provided JD1.6 million in loans to agricultural companies and associations, while JD1.2 million were directed toward the expansion of modern agricultural technologies, supporting 152 borrowers. The program to develop value chains for agricultural products granted loans amounting to JD1.9 million to 88 borrowers. Additionally, JD632,000 in loans were approved for renewable energy projects in agriculture, benefiting 49 borrowers.
The report underscores Jordan's commitment to advancing food security, sustainable agriculture, and economic resilience within the framework of the Economic Modernization Vision.
