Palestinian Pres. Rejects Calls To Seize Gaza Strip

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) RAMALLAH, Feb 5 (KUNA) -- Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas expressed on Wednesday strong rejection of calls to seize the Gaza Strip and displace Palestinians outside their homeland.
President Abbas said, in a press statement and in response to the US takeover of Gaza Strip, that the leadership will not allow harm to the rights of Palestinian people, for which they have fought for many decades and sacrificed greatly.
He added that these calls represent a severe violation of international law, stressing that peace and stability will not be achieved in the region without establishing a Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital on the borders of June 4, 1967, based on the two-state solution.
He said that the Palestinian people will not give up their land, rights and holy sites, adding that Gaza is an inseparable part of the Palestinian state, along with the West Bank and East Jerusalem, which have been occupied since 1967.
The President stressed that the legitimate Palestinian rights are not negotiable and the Palestine Liberation Organization is the sole legitimate representative of the Palestinian people.
He renewed his appreciation for the firm and steadfast Arab positions against displacement and annexation, appreciating the position of Egypt and Jordan in rejecting displacement and infringement of legitimate Palestinian rights.
He also praised Saudi Arabia's efforts in rejecting settlement, annexation and displacement and adhere to the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.
President Abbas called on the Secretary-General of the United Nations and the Security Council to assume their responsibilities and take urgent action to protect international legitimacy resolutions, protect the Palestinian people, preserve their inalienable rights and their right to self-determination.
US President Donald Trump said in a press conference with the Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu that he wants to seize the Gaza Strip and work to develop it.
Trump said that the only reason the Palestinians are in Gaza is the lack of alternatives and that the Strip is full of rubble and that the people of Gaza can be transferred to other places so that they can live in peace. (end)
