Trump’s DOGE says USD1 billion protected on annulled DEI plans

(MENAFN) The US Department of government Efficiency (DOGE), led by Elon Musk and created under President Donald Trump, has announced it saved over $1 billion by eliminating contracts related to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programs. The agency shared the savings breakdown on Friday via its official X account, revealing that 104 contracts, valued at over $1.2 billion, were cut as part of efforts to end DEI initiatives.

DOGE, introduced during Trump’s presidential campaign and later formed as a temporary advisory commission, is tasked with reducing federal spending. Its goal is to slash up to $2 trillion from the federal budget by July 2026. Earlier in the week, DOGE reported a daily savings of about $1 billion due to actions like halting unnecessary hiring, cutting DEI programs, and stopping improper payments to foreign organizations.

Since taking office, Trump has opposed DEI programs, rolling back protections for transgender individuals and terminating DEI initiatives, claiming these efforts were attempts to “socially engineer race and gender” into public and private life. Last week, Trump signed an executive order banning “radical gender ideology” in the US Army, reaffirming physical and mental fitness standards for service members.
