Bamyan Athletes Say All Districts Lack Sports Facilities
BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Some athletes in central Bamyan province have expressed their concern over lack of attention from relevant authorities and facilities, saying they are forced to practice on uneven terrain with minimal facilities.
Ali Rezaei, an athlete, told Pajhwok Afghan News relevant institutions did not pay attention to the situation of players and necessary support was not provided for different sports in the province.
He said even in Yaka Wulang No.1 and 2 Districts, there is no sports field, and athletes practice on dirt fields.
“No specific location has been designated or cleared by the government so that athletes can continue to exercise there”.
Head of Football Federation Mohammad Azim Sadat explained youth's interest in sports has increased, but necessary facilities are not provided to them.
So far, 32 teams in the futsal section and 34 other teams in the football section have been officially registered with the Bamyan Federation, but there is no standard field in any district for these two sports, he added.
According to him, there are several futsal and football fields that have been provided to the municipality and private sectors, but athletes are forced to play during trainings and competitions in Bamyan city.
Sadat asked relevant officials and institutions to support athletes and pay more attention to solving their problems and building sports fields in the province.
But officials said they are trying to address athletes' problems.
Rajab Ali Fitrat, technical and professional officer of the Bamyan Department of Physical Education and Sports, confirmed the existing problems and explained the absence of facilities, economic problems, and the lack of standard fields at the district level have created serious challenges for athletes.
The Department has been able to identify and prepare football fields in the districts of Waras and Punjab, and efforts are underway in other districts in cooperation with the municipality and local residents, Fitrat said.
According to Fitrat, about 170 official licenses have been issued to renew licenses and establish new federations, as well as to build infrastructure, which will formalize sports activities in various sectors and will be supported this year.
Youth's interest in sports is increasing and about 31 different federations are officially active in the province.
