Moscow refuses Trump’s Gaza solution

(MENAFN) Russia has firmly rejected US President Donald Trump's proposal to take control of Gaza, reiterating that a two-state solution is the only way to resolve the Middle East conflict. Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov reaffirmed Russia's stance, emphasizing the creation of a Palestinian state alongside Israel, as outlined in a UN Security Council resolution, as the only viable solution.

Trump’s plan, which involves permanently relocating Gaza's two million Palestinians to neighboring countries like Egypt and Jordan and having the US lead efforts to rebuild Gaza after 15 months of conflict, has sparked widespread condemnation. The UN reports that 92% of homes in Gaza have been severely damaged or destroyed.

Peskov also highlighted that major Arab nations, including Egypt and Jordan, have rejected Trump's proposal, aligning with Russia's position. Trump had described the "takeover" of Gaza as bringing "great stability" to the region, which Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu praised as potentially "changing history."

However, the proposal has faced strong international criticism, with Palestinian authorities calling it a violation of international law and other nations like Saudi Arabia, Turkey, Germany, and China also condemning it. Russia has called for de-escalation and a return to negotiations, having played a significant role in facilitating the January 19 ceasefire between Hamas and Israel.
