Türkiye welcomes 52.6 million international tourists in 2024


(MENAFN) Türkiye welcomed 52.6 million international tourists in 2024, marking a 7 percent increase compared to the previous year, according to official data released on Friday. This growth helped the country achieve a record-breaking tourism income of USD61.1 billion. The tourism sector's expansion underscores Türkiye's increasing popularity as a travel destination, reflecting its vibrant tourism industry.

Istanbul, Türkiye's largest city, remained the top destination for foreign visitors, attracting 18.6 million tourists last year. The famous resort city of Antalya, located on the Turkish Riviera, followed closely, with 15.9 million international tourists. The northwestern province of Edirne, which shares borders with Bulgaria and Greece, ranked third with 4.8 million visitors, while the Aegean province of Mugla drew 3.7 million foreign travelers.

Russians made up 12.8 percent of all foreign arrivals, totaling 6.7 million, a 6 percent increase from the previous year. They were followed by Germans at 6.6 million, a 6.9 percent rise, Britons at 4.4 million, which was a notable 16.7 percent increase, Iranians at 3.2 million, up by 30.9 percent, and Bulgarians at 2.9 million, marking a 0.9 percent rise.

Additionally, Türkiye’s tourism revenue surged by 18.3 percent in 2024, reaching a historic high of USD61.1 billion, highlighting the country’s growing appeal as a prime global tourist destination.
