India To Strengthen Fisheries Sector With Focus On Exclusive Economic Zone In 2025-26 Budget
The country, now the second-largest producer of fish globally with seafood exports valued at Rs 60,000 crore, will benefit from an enabling framework for the sustainable harnessing of fisheries from the Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and High Seas.
Special attention will be given to the Andaman & Nicobar Islands and Lakshadweep Islands to unlock their untapped potential. The move aims to boost exports and strengthen India's position in the global seafood market.
The move is expected to stimulate growth in the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, boosting exports and strengthening India's role as a major player in the global seafood market.
