IDF announces Israel striking ‘weapons smuggling’ location in Syria

This strike occurred just days after Israel and Hezbollah agreed to a ceasefire mediated by the US and France, although both sides have since accused each other of violating the truce. Israel's attack was reportedly in response to the continued transfer of weapons to Hezbollah, despite the ceasefire agreement, which aims to halt hostilities and facilitate the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon.

The Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) have consistently accused Hezbollah of using civilian crossings to smuggle weapons into Lebanon, which could then be used in cross-border attacks on Israel. The IDF reaffirmed its commitment to neutralizing any threats to Israel that breach the ceasefire.

In related developments, Syrian state news reported that an Israeli airstrike on Wednesday killed six people, including military personnel and a humanitarian worker, on the Lebanese-Syrian border. The attack came amid rising tensions in Syria, where various militant groups, including HTS, launched an offensive in northeastern Syria, with Syrian forces receiving air support from Russia as they push back the jihadists in Aleppo.
