France Calls For Respecting Cease-Fire In Lebanon
(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA))
PARIS, Nov 27 (KUNA) -- France on Wednesday called for respecting the cease-fire in Lebanon to allow return of the displaced and restore conditions to normalcy on both sides of the conflict.
The foreign ministry said in a statement that France welcomes the cease-fire agreement and its implementation, affirming that it had capped efforts that had been exerted for many months with the Lebanese and Israeli authorities, in close coordination with the United States.
Terms for a lasting peace are well known and they are within framework of the UN Security Council Resolution 1701, the ministry statement said, noting the accord robustly re-affirmed this resolution.
France will effectively partake in observing and implementing the cease-fire agreement in collaboration with its partners, the official statement said.
Moreover, it underlined the need for re-deploying the government forces in southern Lebanon and electing a new president immediately, noting that a new head of state should be able to unify the Lebanese and re-activate state institutions.
The French Foreign Ministry added that the Lebanon accord should pave the way for a cease-fire in Gaza, affirming that it would pursue efforts to stop the hostilities, release the prisoners and dispatch aid to the Gazans.
A just and lasting political solution that ensures the two states settlement is the sole avenue for establishing peace and security in the Middle East, it stressed. (end)
