An Avocado-Peeling Robot Is Chipotle's Most Recent Experiment

(MENAFN- market Press Release) September 16, 2024 9:43 pm - Chipotle said on Monday that it is testing two new automation initiatives in two of its California locations.

It is possible that your next Chipotle (CMG) order will be processed by computers.

On Monday, the company announced that it is conducting robot tests at two retail locations in the state of California. According to the business, the first one is designed to make the process of manufacturing guacamole more efficient, while the second one might make the process of preparing orders for clients more effective.

According to Chipotle's Chief Customer and Technology Officer, Curt Garner, the "cobotics," also known as collaborative robots, are now being evaluated for staff and customer input before the firm decides how to continue with a bigger pilot study.

The preparation process at Chipotle is being sped up.
In less than half a minute, a machine known as the "autocado" can mechanically chop and peel an avocado that has been sliced. In a statement, the firm said that the purpose of developing the robot was to find jobs that were "time consuming and less favorable" for staff. The company identified the peeling of avocados as the first labor-intensive operation that was targeted.

A demonstration film that was given by the firm shows an employee working on the preparation of other ingredients while a case of avocados is allowed to be dumped into the machine. During the process of making guacamole, the avocado is still mashed by hand, and then the other ingredients that have been prepared are added.

The second machine, which is referred to as the "augmented makeline," functions under a table that is stocked with ingredients. It takes in information about an order and then automatically prepares a bowl or salad, then moves the bowl under the counter and distributes the contents. The firm said that relatively straightforward orders, such as salads and bowls, make up around 65 percent of mobile orders. This indicates that it is possible for staff to devote more time to more complex orders, such as those that need the folding or wrapping of tortillas, such as burritos, tacos, and quesadillas.

Recently, Chipotle's stock price increased by around 2%. The decline that occurred the previous month, which occurred when CEO Brian Niccol announced his leaving for Starbucks (SBUX), has been recovered from.
