Election Commission To Announce Date Of Presidential Polls


(MENAFN- Colombo Gazette) The Election Commission is to announce the date of the Presidential polls in Sri Lanka on Friday.

The Commission said that a gazette notice will be issued on Friday announcing the date of the election and dates when nominations will be accepted.

The election is expected to take place in October yet there are concerns attempts are being made by the government to postpone the polls.

The main candidates at the election are expected to be incumbent President Ranil Wickremesinghe, Opposition Leader Sajith Premadasa and National Peoples Power (NPP) leader Anura Kumara Dissanayake.

Former Army Commander, Field Marshal Sarath Fonseka and Justice Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe have also announced they will be contesting. (Colombo Gazette)
