(MENAFN) Apple has recently committed to voluntary measures set forth by U.S. President Joe Biden to regulate the use of artificial intelligence (AI). This announcement was made by the White House on Friday, marking Apple's entry into a group of 15 other companies that have pledged to ensure their AI technologies are not used for harmful purposes. This initiative originally saw participation from tech giants such as google and Microsoft, which collaborated with OpenAI to sign the initial commitments in July 2023. By September, the initiative had expanded to include eight more companies, such as Adobe, IBM, and Nvidia, further solidifying a collective effort to responsibly manage AI advancements.
In an attempt to stay at the forefront of significant AI-driven innovations, Apple is reportedly considering a partnership with Meta, its long-time competitor. According to a Wall Street Journal report, discussions were held in June between Apple and Meta, Facebook's parent company, about incorporating Meta Platforms’ generative AI model into Apple's AI system. This integration would be aimed at enhancing Apple's devices, including the iPhone, with advanced AI capabilities. Such collaboration underscores the potential synergies between these industry leaders as they explore ways to leverage each other's strengths in AI development.
Meta, along with other companies focused on generative AI, sees a strategic advantage in tapping into Apple's extensive user base, particularly through its highly popular iPhones. By potentially integrating Meta's AI technologies into Apple’s ecosystem, there is an opportunity to significantly amplify the reach and impact of generative AI. This prospective collaboration between Apple and Meta highlights the dynamic nature of the tech industry, where competitors can become partners in order to drive forward the implementation and benefits of cutting-edge AI technologies.
