Turkish Airlines plans to enhance cultural richness, foster international cooperation

(MENAFN) Turkish airlines aims to enhance cultural richness and foster international cooperation while expanding its range of destinations over the next decade, according to Chairman Ahmet Bolat, who spoke to a Turkish news agency. At the Farnborough International Airshow in the UK, Bolat revealed a new cultural initiative in collaboration with award-winning Turkish-American artist Refik Anadol. This project is designed to blend art and culture, featuring a piece that portrays individuals from diverse backgrounds living varied life experiences, illustrating how the airline connects people from different cultures globally.

As part of its cultural and historical promotion efforts, Turkish Airlines plans to recreate a historical type of bread that was once made in Gobeklitepe, an ancient site in Anatolia dating back to around 9,500 BCE. This 3,000-year-old bread will be served to passengers, offering them a unique and memorable experience while highlighting Anatolia’s rich cultural and historical heritage.

Looking ahead, Bolat outlined ambitious plans for the airline, including expanding its fleet to 810 aircraft over the next decade. Reflecting on Turkish Airlines’ progress over the past 20 years, he noted that the airline was ranked 10th on the European Regions Airline Association's list two decades ago. Today, Turkish Airlines is at the top of this list, while former competitors like Alitalia have gone bankrupt. This growth positions Turkish Airlines with the potential to become the world's second-largest airline.

Bolat acknowledged the challenges faced by the aviation industry, noting that 81 airlines have gone bankrupt in the last 20 years. Despite these obstacles, Turkish Airlines has thrived, largely due to the support of President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Bolat emphasized that the airline’s growth targets and strategies demonstrate its commitment to remaining a significant player in the aviation sector, with plans to contribute to the Turkish economy through the establishment of maintenance centers and aircraft engine services within Türkiye.
