Musk declares deleting CrowdStrike from all of their systems

(MENAFN) Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla, has announced that his companies have removed the web-based antivirus platform CrowdStrike from all their systems in the wake of a significant global Windows 10 outage that occurred on Friday. The IT disruption, which was caused by a recent CrowdStrike update that conflicted with Microsoft systems, led to widespread failures affecting users around the world. Major sectors including aviation, finance, and media were hit, with at least 4,295 flights grounded and several media outlets, such as Sky News in the UK and multiple Australian broadcasters, going off the air temporarily.

The outage prompted Musk to react on social media, where he stated, “We just deleted CrowdStrike from all our systems.” His comment followed confirmation from Microsoft’s executive chairman and CEO, Satya Nadella, that the CrowdStrike update was responsible for the global IT meltdown. Nadella assured that Microsoft was working to support customers in bringing their systems back online safely.

Musk criticized the incident further, calling it the “biggest IT fail ever” and echoing sentiments shared by Christopher Stanley, the head of security engineering at X (formerly Twitter), who described the situation as a crucial reminder against using internet-connected privileged binaries in production systems. This response underscores Musk's concerns about the impact of the outage on the automotive supply chain and highlights his broader apprehensions about cybersecurity and system reliability.
