Fact Vs. Fiction: Discrepancies In Rescue 1122 Call Data During Eid


(MENAFN- Tribal News Network) In Buner, known for its seriousness, not a single fake call was made to Rescue 1122 during Eid, according to a recent newspaper report. However, the actual data presents a different story. The newspaper reported a total of 28,000 fake calls received across the province during the three days of Eid, while the real data shows a discrepancy of 14,901 calls. Why this gap?

Every year, after the three days of Eid, the Police department, health department, and Rescue 1122 release performance reports based on information from their district sub-offices. These reports are then featured comprehensively in various newspapers, radio stations, and television news bulletins.

This year, Rescue 1122 also released its report for Eid al-Adha, which became the basis for a detailed local newspaper article. According to the newspaper, Mardan received the highest number of fake calls (3,724), followed by Dera Ismail Khan (3,061), and Peshawar (2,782). The report praised Buner as the most serious district, stating that Rescue 1122 did not receive a single fake call from the entire district during Eid.

However, when TNN contacted the control rooms of Rescue 1122 in all districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, they found that Buner received a total of 516 calls during Eid, including 180 informational calls, 320 fake calls, and 16 emergency calls. Further investigation revealed a discrepancy of 14,901 calls between the data received from all districts and the newspaper report.

For instance, the newspaper reported that Peshawar received 2,782 fake calls, but data from the Rescue 1122 office showed the same number. In Dera Ismail Khan, the newspaper reported 3,061 calls, while the actual number of fake calls was 4,745-a difference of 1,025 calls.

In Swat, the newspaper reported 1,048 calls, but Rescue 1122's spokesperson stated they received 1,578 fake calls, a difference of 530 calls. In Abbottabad, the newspaper reported 1,710 fake calls, but the control room data showed 2,530 fake calls, a difference of 820 calls.

Similarly, in Nowshera, the newspaper stated 1,383 fake calls, while the actual number was 2,950, a difference of 1,567 calls. In Kohat, the newspaper reported 299 fake calls, but the control room data showed 1,563 calls, a discrepancy of 1,264 calls.

In Haripur, the newspaper reported 480 fake calls, but the actual number was 1,322, a difference of 480 calls. In Lower Chitral, the newspaper stated 88 fake calls, while the control room reported 120 fake calls, a difference of 32 calls. In Upper Chitral, the newspaper reported 87 fake calls, but the actual number was 127, a difference of 40 calls.

The newspaper reported that from Abbottabad district, 1,710 fake calls were received, while the control room reported 2,530, a difference of 820 calls. In Charsadda, the newspaper stated 456 fake calls, but the control room reported 496, a difference of 40 calls.

In Swabi, the newspaper reported 1,140 fake calls, but the actual number was 4,093, a discrepancy of 2,953 calls. In Karak, the newspaper stated 1,147 fake calls, while the actual number was 950, a difference of 197 calls.

In Malakand, the newspaper reported 890 fake calls, but the control room data showed 1,310, a difference of 420 calls. In Hangu, the newspaper stated 592 calls, but the actual number was 543, a difference of 49 calls. In Bajaur, the newspaper reported 671 fake calls, while the control room data showed 938, a difference of 267 calls.

In Mansehra, the newspaper reported 540 fake calls, while the control room data showed 1,150, a difference of 610 calls. Buner was initially reported as having zero fake calls, but the control room data showed 320 fake calls during Eid.

In Khyber, the newspaper did not provide data, but the control room reported 1,321 fake calls. In Upper Kohistan, the newspaper reported 230 fake calls, while the actual number was 340, a difference of 110 calls.

In Lower Kohistan, the newspaper reported 62 fake calls, but the control room data showed 92 fake calls, a difference of 30 calls. In Shangla, the newspaper stated 795 fake calls, but the control room reported 1,205, a difference of 410 calls.

In Upper Dir, the newspaper reported 647 fake calls, while the control room data showed 974, a difference of 327 calls. In Lower Dir, the newspaper stated 273 fake calls, while the actual number was 416, a difference of 143 calls.

In Bannu, the newspaper reported 682 fake calls, but the control room data showed 1,022, a difference of 342 calls. In Mohmand, the newspaper stated 530 fake calls, while the actual number was 400, a difference of 130 calls.

In Lakki Marwat, the newspaper reported 480 fake calls, but the actual number was 1,479, a discrepancy of 999 calls. In Kurram, the newspaper stated 412 calls, while the actual number was 613, a difference of 201 calls.

In Tank, the newspaper reported 112 calls, while the actual number was 170, a difference of 58 calls. In Orakzai, the newspaper stated 360 fake calls, but the control room reported 570 fake calls, a difference of 210 calls.

In Battagram, the newspaper reported 849 fake calls, while the control room data showed 1,277, a difference of 428 calls. In South Waziristan, the newspaper reported 43 calls, and in North Waziristan, 746 fake calls were reported, but the control room data showed 116 and 1,179 fake calls, respectively, a discrepancy of 506 calls.

In Torghar, the newspaper stated 320 fake calls, while the control room reported 512, a difference of 192 calls.

Various organizations publish such reports annually, but they are often not counter-checked. Any report must be thoroughly verified journalistically before being disseminated to ensure accurate information reaches the public.
