11th meeting of Joint Border Trade Committee between Iran, Pakistan commences in Zahedan
(MENAFN) The 11th meeting of the Joint Border Trade Committee between Iran and Pakistan commenced on Monday in Zahedan, a city in southeastern Iran. The primary agenda for this meeting is to bolster bilateral trade to an annual volume of USD10 billion. Participating in the meeting online, Pakistan's Ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, emphasized that the delegations from both nations would discuss mechanisms to enhance mutual trade.
Key attendees of the meeting included the Islamic Republic of Iran's consul general in Quetta, Pakistan's consul general in Zahedan, and other senior officials from the Sistan-Baluchestan province. These joint meetings aim to review and eliminate obstacles to trade, fostering economic relations between the two neighboring countries.
The discussions focused on coordinating efforts to improve trade and economic ties, exchanging economic delegations, organizing joint exhibitions, attracting bilateral investments, and establishing joint industrial centers and retail markets. The head of the Pakistani delegation highlighted Islamabad's strong support for the development of joint markets and investments, which are seen as vital for building trust between the two nations.
Irfan Javed, representing Pakistan, also stressed the importance of cooperation in transportation, noting its significant impact on the livelihoods of people living in border regions. Similarly, Davoud Shahraki, the deputy coordinator of economic affairs for the Sistan-Baluchestan governor’s office, expressed Iran's eagerness to expand trade exchanges with Pakistan, acknowledging the historic and long-standing relationship between the two countries.
In related news, on June 30, Pakistan’s Ambassador to Iran, Muhammad Mudassir Tipu, announced enhancements at two border points between the countries to facilitate trade and passenger travel. He shared on his X account that immigration facilities at Taftan and Gabd borders had been significantly improved, allowing 4,000 to 6,000 passengers to cross daily, thereby promoting bilateral trade and easing travel for business communities and pilgrims.
