Israeli airstrikes on Gaza Strip kill, injure dozens
(MENAFN) Dozens of Palestinians have tragically lost their lives and many others have been injured in Gaza City following intense Israeli airstrikes, as reported by the Gaza Civil Defense Agency on Sunday. Mahmoud Basal, spokesperson for the agency, described the situation as dire, with residential areas in neighborhoods like al-Daraj, Tuffah, and the Old City heavily targeted by what he termed as "insane bombing" by the Israeli occupation forces.
Basal highlighted that the airstrikes specifically targeted inhabited homes along Yafa Street, resulting in numerous casualties and people trapped beneath the rubble. The initial moments of the bombings were described as terrifying, with continuous bombardments over a span of half an hour leading to a significant loss of life and injuries among civilians.
Residents in these areas have been left with no safe havens, as the bombings have driven many to flee their homes, facing an uncertain fate as they struggle to find refuge amid the ongoing attacks. Despite pleas for evacuation from trapped residents, rescue efforts have been hampered by the relentless airstrikes.
Earlier in the day, Israeli aircraft and artillery continued their offensive, causing widespread injuries and displacing thousands of families across Gaza City. As the situation escalates, the Israeli army has issued urgent evacuation orders for residents and displaced individuals in neighborhoods like Tuffah, al-Daraj, and the Old City, instructing them to seek shelter immediately in safer areas of the city's western regions.
