Donald Trump secures victory in Republican primaries amid continued support

(MENAFN) Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump faced his first electoral test since his conviction in New York during the primaries held in several American states on Tuesday. Despite being the sole Republican candidate remaining in the race for the November presidential elections, Trump's long-time conservative rivals had withdrawn from contention.

The American election schedule allows some states to conduct primaries leading to the nomination of the candidate who will be officially selected at the party convention in July. This process unfolded on Tuesday in Montana, New Jersey, New Mexico, and South Dakota.

While Donald Trump remains the official Republican contender against Democratic President Joe Biden, the names of his former conservative rivals still appeared on ballots printed months prior. This inclusion provided an avenue for some Republican voters to express their discontent with the billionaire businessman.

The primary elections on Tuesday served as a crucial gauge of Republican voters' continued support for Donald Trump following his legal challenges. Despite facing opposition from within his party, the seventy-year-old candidate secured significant victories in each of the states where primaries were held. Notably, Trump's overwhelming success in New Mexico, where he garnered 85% of the votes, underscored his enduring appeal among Republican voters.
