Iran’s PMO announces loading, unloading activities see 8 percent surge in 10 months
(MENAFN) The Ports and Maritime Organization (PMO) of Iran announced that the loading and unloading activities at the country's ports experienced an eight percent increase during the first ten months of the current Iranian calendar year (March 21, 2023-January 20, 2024) compared to the corresponding period in the previous year. According to the PMO's report, a total of 194,078,457 tons of goods were loaded and unloaded at the ports during this ten-month period. Additionally, loading and unloading operations in the container sector saw a six percent rise year-on-year.
Data previously released by the Transport and Urban Development Ministry indicated a notable increase in the loading and unloading activities at Iran's ports during the previous Iranian calendar year 1400 (which ended on March 20, 2023). The ministry reported a 17 percent growth in the loading and unloading of goods at the country's ports compared to the preceding year. Specifically, the loading and unloading volume reached 152.91 million tons during the previous Iranian calendar year, up from 130.69 million tons in the preceding year.
Furthermore, the report highlighted significant growth across various sectors. In the container sector, loading and unloading operations amounted to 2.1 million TEUs (twenty-foot equivalent units) with a total weight of 24.57 million tons during the previous Iranian calendar year, marking a 13.5 percent increase compared to the Iranian calendar year 1399. Moreover, loading and unloading activities in the dry bulk sector grew by 12.8 percent, while the liquid bulk sector saw a 12.6 percent increase. Additionally, the general cargo sector experienced a 13.1 percent rise, and the oil sector witnessed growth of 22.5 percent during the same period.
