(MENAFN) The Treasury and Finance Ministry of Turkey has increased its attempts to get Turkey taken off the Financial Action Task Force's (FATF) "gray list"
According to reports, five of the seven defects found by the FATF have been fixed.
The Minister and representatives from the pertinent ministry and agency met for the first time on July 10 to discuss the final two inadequacies.
The ministry started a "rapid and effective" coordinating procedure during this meeting.
“Efforts to be intensified to accelerate education and awareness programs on money laundering and terrorism financing. Specialized public prosecutor's offices and competent courts have been established in all provinces, and guidelines have been prepared for the investigation process. Training programs to increase awareness will be expedited,” stated the ministry.
To enhance Turkey's favorable reputation in the global community, specialized working offices and technical groups were set up, it was noted.
Finance Minister Mehmet Simsek asserted in the conference that "Türkiye continues to demonstrate determination and sincerity in combating money laundering and terrorism financing in line with the international standards set by the FATF, and that the country has accelerated their efforts to address the deficiencies identified by the FATF."
