(MENAFN- Emirates News Agency (WAM)) MORONI, 19th June, 2023 (WAM) -- Saeed Mohammed Al Maqbali, UAE Ambassador to the Union of the Comoros, affirmed that cultural diplomacy is the key to bringing people together and is a genuine channel for nations seeking peace.
Al Maqbali's remarks came in a speech during his participation in the opening of the first show of the“Screenings of Joy” programme, which took place in Independence Square in the capital Moroni as part of a cultural and artistic programme in Comoros in cooperation with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), and in the presence of Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan Al Nahyan, Extraordinary Ambassador for Culture for ALECSO.
Al Maqbali said, "I would like to express my sincere gratitude for the initiative of the Extraordinary Ambassador for Culture for ALECSO, Sheikha Alyazia bint Nahyan Al Nahyan, for organising an integrated cultural and artistic programme in Comoros entitled 'Screenings of Joy,' which aims to enhance the status of Arab culture between the UAE and the Union of the Comoros.”
He added, "These initiatives allow people to engage in dialogue and exchange cultures in order to spread understanding and build bridges of communication, cooperation, and coexistence among Arab youth.”
He stressed that culture is the expression of identity and social and human authenticity, promotes unity among peoples, and advances the values of tolerance, cooperation, and solidarity. This is the soft power that influences the hearts and minds of others and elevates the prestige of countries and their peoples, he noted.
Under the initiative, a series of Emirati and Arab films were screened to promote Arab culture and support the skills of young artists in the Union of the Comoros, thereby fostering cultural and artistic dialogue among viewers.
