Joint Projects Set To Enhance Kazakh-Qatari Co-Operation


(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Kazakhstan Vice Minister of Culture and Sports Yerzhan Yerkinbayev has said that the visit of His Highness the Amir sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani to Astana confirms the depth of the friendship between the two countries, and their keenness to enhance joint co-operation at all levels.
In an interview with Qatar News Agency (QNA), He said that the visit of His Highness the Amir to Kazakhstan and his participation in the Astana International Forum will contribute to further consolidating co-operation in the main fields between the two countries, including trade, investment, tourism and culture, especially since the historical relations based on mutual respect and benefit have pushed towards the development and progress of the multidimensional dialogue between the two sides.
Yerkinbayev pointed out that common values, aspirations for development and prosperity, and readiness for mutual support at the regional and international levels, are the foundations of bilateral relations between Kazakhstan and Qatar.
Relations between the two countries have developed significantly in the recent period, he said, noting that a Kazakh delegation consisting of 10 companies specialized in tourism and hotels visited Doha recently, during which a series of meetings with the most prominent Qatari tourism companies were held.
During the visit, the Kazakh tourism companies briefed their Qatari counterparts on the unique tourism opportunities in Kazakhstan, he explained, adding that Qatari tourism companies emphasized the increasing interest of Qatari tourists in visiting the main tourist destinations in Kazakhstan, especially the city of Almaty and the capital, Astana.
The vice minister revealed that fruitful discussions are currently underway with investors in Qatar to cooperate in the infrastructure sector, building hotels and tourist resorts in Kazakhstan, especially in promising regions such as Turkestan and Mangystau.
He also highlighted other investment opportunities that include the establishment of a hotel and resort (800 rooms) in an area in Akmola province, and the construction of a five-star hotel (200 rooms) as well as the construction of ski resorts in the mountainous region of Almaty, in addition to the tourist complex in the East Kazakhstan region.
He stressed that Qatar is one of the significant countries in the region in all economic and political aspects, as it enjoys a distinguished geographical location, noting that, during the past few years, Qatar has witnessed an unprecedented cultural and urban diversification and transformation, where environmentally friendly cities, luxury hotels and splendid commercial complexes were established, while preserving its authentic culture, customs and traditions.
This progress helped Qatar to consolidate its position among the leading tourist destinations around the globe, and enabled the country to attract tourists from all categories, he added. Yerkinbayev concluded his interview with QNA by saying that FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 will remain globally recognized, thanks to the high capabilities provided by Qatar in terms of organization and distinguished infrastructure, highlighting Kazakhstan's great experience in organizing and hosting major international events, on top of which is Expo 2017 and the Asian Winter Games.
