Doha, Qatar: Streaming platform Apple TV+ on Tuesday disclosed plans for an untitled four-part documentary series chronicling the historic triumph of Lionel Messi during the FIFA World Cup 2022.
The ground-breaking series, filmed across Qatar, Paris, and Argentina, traces the extraordinary journey of the Argentine football sensation, culminating in one of the most thrilling World Cup finals in history, where Argentina triumphed over France.
The series promises to offer an intimate look at Messi's remarkable career throughout the tournament, with an emphasis on his exhilarating performance in the championship's final match. No broadcast date was given for the documentary.
According to Apple TV, ahead of the 2022 tournament, Messi shared his aspirations with the documentary team, expressing:“It would be the ultimate experience to win a World Cup and to be able to end my career in that way. I've daydreamed about it after many years of fighting for it. I made a million possibilities of what could happen ... the first match, the round of 16, the quarterfinals, the semifinal and the final."
"I'm also going to live it as something special because it's the last one. To finish my last year winning a World Cup would be the dream ending.”

The currently untitled documentary event is executive produced by Emmy Award winner Tim Pastore (“Free Solo,”“Jane”), Emmy and Tony Award winners Patrick Milling Smith and Brian Carmody, and Emmy Award winner Matt Renner (“Free Solo,”“Limitless with Chris Hemsworth”) of SMUGGLER Entertainment, alongside Jon Henion (“Welcome to Wrexham”) and Juan Camilo Cruz (“In Her Hands”).
