9 May commemorates the signing of the Schuman declaration, which marks the beginning of the European project. On 9 May 1950, six countries, former enemies, agreed to secure long-term peace in post-war Europe that is considered the beginning of what is now the European Union to pool the production of coal and steel –what cannons are made of – in order to make another war materially impossible. Since then, the 6 have become 27 and turned into an ever-closer political and economic bloc.
