Frontex Team In Cyprus To Assist With 'Voluntary Returns'

(MENAFN- Famagusta Gazette) Frontex, the European Border and Coast Guard Agency, has deployed a team of forced return escort and support officers at the Larnaca Branch of the Aliens and Immigration Unit in Cyprus.

According to a press release, the team consists of four standing corps officers, who are tasked to provide support with assisted voluntary returns as well as perform ground support and escorting tasks.

Prior to the deployment, the team was trained by the Cypriot authorities to ensure efficient cooperation and integration with local officers.

Last week, as the famagusta gazette reported , the Ministers of interior and immigration of Italy, Spain, Greece, Malta and Cyprus on Saturday called for enhanced surveillance of external European Union (EU) borders to check irregular immigration.

In a declaration issued following the end of a two-day meeting held in the western Cypriot city of Paphos, the ministers of the so-called MED5 group, consisting of the five Mediterranean and southern EU member states, drew special attention to the surveillance of the United Nations-controlled Green Line in Cyprus.
