High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine Detains Grain Theft Scheme Organizer


(MENAFN) The High Anti-Corruption Court of Ukraine (HACC) has ruled to keep the organizer of a grain theft scheme in custody. Alternatively, the suspect can be released on bail for almost UAH 2.7 million. The state suffered significant losses due to this criminal operation, which was exposed by the National Anti-Corruption Bureau of Ukraine (NABU).

According to a statement by the Specialized Anti-Corruption Prosecutor's Office (SAPO) on Telegram, HACC made the decision to detain the criminal responsible for the grain theft scheme on March 24, 2023, at the request of NABU and SAPO. The suspect, who is the former head of the state enterprise Center for Certification and Testing of Seeds and Planting Stock, was given the option to be released on bail as an alternative.

The detention period is until May 22, 2023, inclusive. If the suspect is granted bail, they will be subject to a number of procedural obligations. The suspect was taken into custody in the courtroom in compliance with the court decision.

The exposure of former employees of the state-owned enterprise by NABU on March 2 has revealed that the grain theft scheme caused losses to the state of more than UAH 9 million during grain purchases. The HACC's decision to detain the scheme's organizer reflects the Ukrainian government's commitment to combating corruption and holding those responsible accountable for their actions.
