UK Ambassador Welcomes Modernization Vision In Talk To Rotarians

(MENAFN- Amman Net) The United Kingdom ambassador to Jordan, Bridget Brind spoke positively to Rotarians about Jordan's Political future plan. In her speech about UK-Jordan relations and UK foreign policy in the region, Ambassador Brind was responding to a question about whether Jordan needed a Magna Carta similar to the 1215 famous British rights document. “I am impressed with the current effort to set up political parties with a strong involvement of youth, women, and the disabled,” she told Rotarians

Brind was addressing members of five Amman-based Rotary clubs at the Landmark Hotel on Wednesday. President of the Amman International Rotary, Samuel Kakish spoke about the relations between Jordan and Britain all the way back to the early 1900s when Arabs helped the British in World War I.“This caused the collapse of the Ottoman Empire and the British installed Sheriff Abdullah as ruler of the Emirate of Trans Jordan, Kakish said.

The event was co-organized by the Amman West Rotary, Amman Citadel, Amman Ammon, Amman International, and Philadelphia Rotary.
Ambassador Brind spoke about 102 years of shared history and praised the partnership with Jordan describing the relationship as“brilliant.” Brind touched on the recent Aqaba meeting as an important step in difficult circumstances and reiterated her country's support for the two-state solution based on the 1967 borders, with Jerusalem as a shared capital and the status quo in Al Aqsa preserved. Brind spoke about the illegal and unprovoked Russian invasion of Ukraine, noting the impact on both Jordan and the UK through higher food and energy prices.

The British ambassador spoke about the many visits of the British royal family and noted that she was fortunate to have seen Her Majesty before coming to Jordan in 2020 because of the pandemic and the passing of Queen Elizabeth. She said that the coronation of King Charles will take place on the 6th of May.

In answer to another question, Ambassador Brind spoke about the importance of diversity.“Economies thrive because the best ideas are discovered when you have diversity.”
