Repurposing
Textile waste has been a long-standing problem in Tunisia, with most waste being exported or incinerated, thus contributing to environmental degradation. The Fiber Conversion Company converts this waste back into fiber before using it to produce highly demanded products such as rug pads, mopping pads, and mattress pads . These are sold in the local market and overseas, thus creating value in Tunisian textile exports.
According to TAP, this innovative approach to waste management has had a significant impact in Tunisia, reducing waste in landfills and preserving the environment . Through its business, the Fiber Conversion Company is also creating economic opportunities for the local population. However, the company believes the existing tax legislation focused on workers who collect and sell textile waste must be revamped, reducing taxes to encourage the activity.
