Global Public Diplomacy Network General Assembly Begins At Katara

Doha: The general assembly of the Global Public diplomacy Network, which its current session is chaired by Qatar represented by the Cultural Village Foundation (Katara), held its eighth meeting at Katara today.

The two-day meeting was attended by Dr. Khalid bin Ibrahim Al Sulaiti, Katara General Manger and Head of the Global Public Diplomacy Network, and Eng. Darwish Ahmed Al Shaibani, Secretary-General of the Network and CEO of the Katara Public Diplomacy Center, in addition to heads of delegations from 22 countries.

In his opening speech, Dr. Al Sulaiti expressed Katara's welcome to ambassadors of public diplomacy from different continents of the world to discuss joint projects that consolidate the great role of public diplomacy in building bridges of communication, understanding and developing relations between peoples and societies in an effective and sustainable manner, stressing the meeting's importance in developing relations, closer cooperation and coordination and increasing space for joint action between all parties for more achievements.

For his part, Al Shaibani appreciated the efforts of the network's member states to develop effective work mechanisms, expand areas of cooperation and the extent of their positive impact on achieving mutual benefit between all parties, expressing his hope that this meeting will open new doors for cooperation, integration and openness between all institutions and parties.

The meeting discussed the membership of Malta and Moldova, as Malta obtained full membership, while Moldova was granted associate membership, bringing the number of network's member states to 29 countries. The State of Cuba was represented during the meeting by Ambassador Juan Antonio Fernndez Palacios, who gave a visual presentation on the MINREX foundation which is affiliated with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Cuba and focuses on communication and building the country's image, referring to its role in cultural and knowledge communication and launching strategies for external communication.
