Moscow criticizes US "hysteria" on Chinese balloon

(MENAFN) According to spokesperson for the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova on Tuesday, the American response to the Chinese air balloon was "impulsive" and exaggerated. China maintains that last week's object that the United States claimed to have shot down was a "spy balloon" was only a meteorological gadget.

During a conference on Tuesday, Zakharova remarked, “we assume that the Chinese side’s explanations of [the incident] are sufficient and clear.” She went on to say that, in contrast to the spectacular response from the United States government and media, Beijing's conduct in this "nontrivial situation" was "responsible."

“Washington and the American media’s impulsive reaction can’t be described as anything other than hysterical.” she declared, noting that the United States continues to use “contrived reasons, or none at all, in order to slander and demonize countries who refuse to dance to their tune.”

Last week, a Chinese unmanned blimp was seen traveling across Alaska, some of Canada, and finally over the United States. The Pentagon declared on Thursday that it was "most certainly launched by China" for information collection, and the media referred to it as a "spy balloon." United States Secretary of State Antony Blinken postponed his trip to China for an undetermined period of time on Friday.
