Launch of production of newest Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle to be seen in 2023

(MENAFN) This year sees the launch of production of the newest Kalashnikov AK-12 assault rifle by the Russian defense conglomerate Rostec. It is the storied weapon's fifth generation.

According to Sergey Chemezov, the head of Rostec, the new design takes into account the expertise Russian troops have gathered during the military action in Ukraine.

He said as he revealed the updated rifle variant on Friday, "We are working in partnership with the military and are obtaining their comments. "We can incorporate building changes and improve our products while quickly responding to the changing needs [of the army]."

Chemezov claims that the new AK-12 model has undergone "significant modifications" and is much more ergonomic and user-friendly. The new model will be produced in large quantities this year, he noted.

In comparison to preceding generations, the 5.45mm caliber AK-12 has improved operational accuracy and fire density. Additionally, it has multiple Picatinny rails for laser target indicators and gun sights.

The weapon is one of many cutting-edge items produced by the Kalashnikov Group, along with the 5.56x45mm AK-19 assault rifle and the 9mm PPK-20 submachine pistol. The company makes 7.62mm caliber AK-15 assault rifles for the Russian Army and AK-19 rifles for customers around the world.
