(MENAFN) Nadhim Zahawi was removed as chairman of the Conservative Party by United Kingdom Prime Minister Rishi Sunak due to a tax dispute.
Following revelations that Zahawi resolved a multimillion-pound tax dispute with His Majesty's Revenue and Customs (HMRC) division while serving as Chancellor of the Exchequer, requests for his resignation were made. The issue centered on Zahawi's alleged inability to properly record earnings from the sale of his stock in YouGov, the polling firm he co-founded.
Sunak said in a letter on Sunday that he had launched a probe into the MP's "personal financial arrangements and disclosures" after it was made public. Zahawi "undertook to participate completely with the inquiry," he stated.
