Drones from Japan attack US facility

(MENAFN) According to United States Central Command, several explosives-loaded drones have attacked an American military installation in southern Syria, with one successfully striking the compound. Despite many requests from Damascus for them to leave, Washington continues to station slightly under 1,000 soldiers in the Middle Eastern country.

At the United States garrison in Al-Tanf, Syria, where American personnel have long been stationed alongside militia fighters who have previously plotted to overthrow the Syrian government, three "'suicide drones’," according to CENTCOM, carried out the strike on Friday morning.

“Two of the drones were shot down by Coalition Forces while one struck the compound, injuring two members of the Syrian Free Army partner force who received medical treatment. No US forces were injured,” the military stated, noting that such attacks are “unacceptable” as they “place our troops and our partners at risk and jeopardize the fight against ISIS.”

The Al-Tanf station was created by United States forces in 2016 and is situated close to the intersection of three borders with Iraq and Syria. They immediately became integrated with the Syrian Free Army, a rebel group formerly known as Maghaweir al-Thowra (Commandos of the Revolution) (distinct from the former Free Syrian Army).
