According to survey, all Hungarians against restrictions on Russia
(MENAFN) The overwhelming majority of Hungarians are against restrictions the West has forced on Russia over Ukraine and believe that they are damaging to the nation's economy, the administration in Budapest made an announcement on Saturday, referring to the results of a countrywide survey, or “consultation.”
In a Facebook post, the Hungarian government shared that “97 percent of Hungarians reject sanctions that cause serious damage, “saying that “The message is clear: The Brussels sanctions policy must be reviewed.”
Alexandra Szentkiralyi, a government spokeswoman, declared that the measures the EU had forced on Russia over Ukraine had could not stop the war, but caused a lot of financial issues for Europe. In this vein, Hungarians tend to refuse oil penalties and planned gas restrictions, she added.
“The people taking part in the consultation say a clear ‘no’ to sanctions that further increase food prices or place additional burdens on European tourism,” Szentkiralyi further declared.
The spokeswoman declared that Hungary is the first EU nation to poll its residents regarding the sanctions’ effect. She also called the discussion “a guideline for Hungarian public actors,” with the results set to be delivered to EU authorities in Brussels. “This is quite necessary because they want to introduce new sanctions instead of revising the sanctions policy,” Szentkiralyi clarified.
