Renowned Syrian singer George Wassouf's eldest son, Wadih, passed away on Friday as a result of complications arising from gastric bypass surgery. George Wassouf, famously known as 'Sultan of Tarab', announced his son's untimely death on his twitter handle yesterday.

Wadih Wassouf was a Doha resident and was the Chief Entertainment Officer of A2Z Media with offices in Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and Lebanon.

Wadih underwent gastric sleeve surgery on December 27, but his health deteriorated a week after the operation which prompted his mother, Shalimar, to ask him to undergo laboratory tests. Along with his two brothers, Hatem and George Junior, Wadih was taken to a hospital in Beirut where he died the following day. He was 39.

Wadih's name has always been associated with the name of his father who would always dedicate songs to him throughout his music career, proudly calling his son 'Abu Wadih'.

Wadih Wassouf was born on August 25, 1983. He received his basic education in Lebanon and studied marketing at the American University of Beirut. He was previously engaged with Lebanese artist Rola Shamia but was called off and they remained friends.

Wadih will be buried in the family cemetery in his hometown of Kafroun in Syria.
