Aligarh Police Seeks Details Of Students Enrolled In Various Departments, schools
Srinagar- The Uttar Pradesh Police has directed the administration of the prestigiousAligarh Muslim University (AMU) to furnish details of the students from Jammu and Kashmir studying in the varsity.
An official communiqué issued by the Assistant Controller Examination of AMU (UP) has said that the details are to be sought on directions of Superintendent of Police, Aligarh.
The Assistant Controller Examination has asked its deans of the faculties, Dean Student Welfare (DSW), Chairmen of the all Department of Studies in faculties to submit the details of Kashmiri students studying in the varsity.
Besides, the authorities have also sought details from the principal of colleges, polytechnic, S.H. Senior Secondary School boys and girls, STS School, AMU Girls School, RMPS AMU City School, AMU ABK School of boys and girls coordinator, AMU Centre Nodal Office, Centre of Professional Courses, Disability Unit, B.E. (Evening) Course, Interdicts, Biotech Unit, Interdisciplinary Centre for Artificial Intelligence, interdis centre for green and renewable energy
The letter has also been shot to director, K.A. Nizami Centre for Quranic Studies, CEPECAMI, Centre for Interdisc, biomedical and human factors engineering, centre for women's studies, centre of advanced study schools and nodal officer of community college.
Assistant Controller Examination of AMU said,“I am directed to request these officials to furnish the Information with regard to total number of students studying in the faculty, centre etcetera male and female wise total number of Jammu and Kashmiri students admitted with complete details during the session 2022-2023.”
The officer has directed to furnish the details on priority.“The information is to be provided to the Superintendent of Police of Aligarh.”
Pertinently, on December 25, scores of Kashmiri students protested at AMU following the alleged thrashing of a Kashmiri student.
Meanwhile, J&K Students Association has urged the Home Minister Amit Shah to withdraw a circular of profiling Jammu and Kashmiri students issued by Aligarh Muslim University on the directions of Aligarh Police.
In a statement, National Convenor of Association Nasir Khuehami said that Aligarh Police is seeking information of 1300 J&K students enrolled in AMU.
“This is a discriminatory move, breaching the privacy of J&K students & clearly goes against the spirit of the Constitution. J&K students studying in AMU have opposed this move and termed it an act of snooping on them,”Khuehami said.
He said that AMU has been asked to immediately provide details of the students hailing from Jammu and Kashmir.
According to Khuehami, the details which have been sought include the name of the student, father's name, current address, permanent address, mobile number, along with details of courses and department.
“AMU has asked different departments to furnish details on Jammu and Kashmir students. The circular says please attend this on priority as information is to be provided to Superintendent Police Aligarh,”he said.
Khuehami said, this move is quite“discriminatory” towards students of Jammu and Kashmir.
“While no students of other state or Union territories of India are asked to furnish such details, why only J&K students?,” he asked.
He said the profiling of J&K students will serve an impediment and obstacle to the integration of Jammu and Kashmiri youth to India.
“Such measures alienate and estrange the youth of Kashmir in general and students studying across India in particular,”JKSA National Convener said.
“The profiling has caused scepticism among students and has thrown them into anxiety. Such measures are causing immense vexation to Kashmiri students studying in AMU. It is strange that the authorities chose to target only Jammu and Kashmiri students. Was it to suggest that our students are different from the rest of country country?” he added
National Spokesperson of Association, Ummar Jamal also requested Home Minister, Amit Shah and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister,Yogi Adityanath to poste-haste look into the matter and take immediate steps to revoke the discriminatory circular.
Ummar requested them that no sort of profiling of J&K students should be done at AMU, because this makes Kashmiri students feel that they are strangers.
“We request Home Minister to Kindly intervene in the matter and issue directions for cessation of the unfair profiling of Jammu and Kashmiri students, so that the students continue their studies hassle-free without difficulty” Ummar added. (With KNO inputs)
