Jammu, Nov 19 (KNN)
There is a dire need to develop much-needed power infrastructure in Jammu and Kashmir, as there are too many power cuts and this causes a lot of inconvenience to the industries, said Rahul Sahai, Chairman of PHD Chamber of Commerce and industry Jammu Chapter (PHDCCI).

He said that the power infrastructure needs to be developed per the requirements of the new industries near SICOP / SIDCO and Private Industrial Estates.

The PHDCCI delegation, led by Sahai met with the Principal Secretary, of the Industries and Commerce Department, J&K, Prashant Goyal and discussed the issues concerning the trade and industry fraternity of Jammu and Kashmir.

During the meeting, Sahai pointed out that power tariffs for the industries should not be increased as new and existing industries would become unviable, and disinterested in investing due to the hike in power tariff.

For the development of new Government Industrial Estates, he suggested that New Industrial Estates should be developed in a time-bound manner and if it takes time then the date of commencement /production of the new industry in the scheme should be extended.

“The change of land use (CLU) is a big issue for Private Industrial Estates and it is taking too much time, getting NOCs is a big hassle,” the PHDCCI delegation pointed out.

There are a lot of NOCs required for the conversion of private land to Industrial land. Sahai suggested that to have a single window for getting those NOCs done so that more and more private industries could start production at the earliest.

Another issue raised at the meeting was regarding the difference between incentives for the existing industry when we compare the new Centre's Industrial policy for new coming industries, especially GST-linked incentives.

PHDCCI suggested redesigning J&K's Industrial Policy at par with the new Central Industrial Policy so that left-out incentives of GST could be given to existing industries.

Other key persons present at the meeting included Samar Dev Singh Charak, Shantnu Gupta, Anil Sharma, Raj Dua, Arush Mahajan, Vipluv Gupta, members of PHDCCI Jammu Chapter and Amarpreet Singh, Resident Officer PHDCCI Jammu Office.
