Doha: AFG College with the University of Aberdeen held an exclusive campus workshop focusing on International Commercial Law for the 21st Century: Academic and Practioners Perspectives.

Al Tamimi & Company is the leading law firm in the region, operating 17 offices in 10 countries across the Middle East and North Africa. Their local Doha office co-hosted the event.

The event was attended by a number of students, perspective study applicants and members of the legal profession who attended to learn from and engaged with the event speakers.

Special guests included Matthew Heaton, Al Tamimi & Company, Partner and Head of Office, Qatar, as well as Collin Milton, Deputy Director of the listings department at Qatar Exchange.

Participants were able to hear from Professor John Paterson of the University of Aberdeen's Law School, who had flown in from Scotland especially for the event.

Professor Paterson, a specialist in UK oil and gas law, spoke on the role of stakeholders and shareholders within an organisation and their impact on social responsibility in the 21st century.

AFG College with the University of Aberdeen LLM programme leader, Gianluca Andresani said:“I was very pleased to see so many participate. From students, to those with a keen interest in law to law practitioners from law firms across Doha. The insight into the very real role that commercial law plays within all organisational settings puts a real perspective on the importance of social responsibility.”

“I hope that this workshop will be the first of many that will offer learners and experts the opportunity to grasp the practical considerations of law, whilst at the same allowing them to draw from their theoretical appreciation of the subject,” said Paterson.

AFG College in partnership with the University of Aberdeen offer a range of business and management related courses at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

The University of Aberdeen is over 500 years old. It was founded in 1495 and has a long history of academic and research excellence.
