In just a few days, the twitter campaign against the alleged systematic killing,“genocide” of the Hazara ethnic group in Afghanistan, has received more than 4 million tweets and is still going strong.
The total number of tweets using the hashtag“#StopHazaraGenocide” surpassed 4 million a few hours ago, and it has been tweeted more than 1.18 million times in the last 24 hours alone.
After a terrorist attack on the Kaaj education center in the west of Kabul, the Afghan capital, resulted in the deaths of over 54 students, mostly girls, the hashtag campaign quickly gained prominence on Twitter and soon became a hot trend.
The issue of the systematic killing of Hazaras has been brought up again by this deadly attack on Hazara children, and in the past five days, it has also dominated domestic media coverage.
Genocide is defined as an act in which a person or group deliberately targets a group of people for physical destruction because they belong to a specific race, religion, or ethnicity.
The fact that the Hazara community in Afghanistan has fallen victim to major organized terrorist attacks, the Kaaj tragedy to hit the community at the latest, manifests the systematic attacks and genocide against the ethnic minority.
The Kaaj explosion on Friday, September 30, according to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA), has resulted in at least 54 fatalities and 112 injuries. The UN agency further said that the figures are likely to increase.
