Saudi Arabia’s import of plastic products increase by 18 percent


(MENAFN) According to the General Authority for Statistics, Saudi Arabia's imports of plastic items climbed by 18 percent to 456,000 tons in the second quarter of this year from 386,000 tons during the same time last year.

According to the GASTAT data, the spike in imports was caused by a 45 percent annual increase in imports from China.

Over the same time period, sales of rubber goods increased by 12 percent, from 152,000 to 170,000 units, driven by a 14 percent rise in imports from China.

Rubber imports have climbed the most since the third quarter of 2019, while plastic imports have increased at their greatest level since the second quarter of 2019.

From SR6 billion in the same quarter last year, the total imports of plastic and rubber increased by 19% to SR7.1 billion (USD1.89 billion) in the second quarter of the current year.

Rubber imports rose by 23 percent from SR1.9 billion to SR2.4 billion, while imports of plastic jumped by 18 percent quarter over quarter from SR4 billion to SR4.8 billion.
