Ukrainian Drone Strike Destroys Russian Hypermarket

(MENAFN) A large retail store situated in the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) was obliterated on Saturday night following a drone strike attributed to Ukrainian forces, according to regional authorities.

The incident took place after an earlier assault on another Russian-controlled area, which left several civilians wounded.

As per information released by the DPR’s Joint Center for Control and Coordination (JCCC), the Sigma hypermarket — a former Auchan outlet located near the Slaviansk–Donetsk–Mariupol highway — was targeted at approximately 10:24pm local time.

The strike ignited a substantial fire that quickly consumed the entire building.

Authorities confirmed that the blaze spread swiftly across the facility, resulting in the collapse of both the roof and the internal structural components. The store was characterized as “almost entirely burned down.”

Firefighting units were promptly dispatched to bring the flames under control and stop the fire from extending to adjacent properties.

The JCCC reported that there were no injuries or fatalities at the hypermarket site.

Earlier that same day, officials stated that Ukrainian forces had launched strikes on the cities of Gorlovka and Makeevka.

At least four non-combatants sustained injuries, with one in critical condition, when a public bus was struck.

Further attacks caused damage to multiple apartment buildings, private vehicles, and even a kindergarten.
