Drones, carrying alleged illicit substances and prohibited items were seized in the La Nueva Joya, Tinajitas, and Nueva Esperanza penitentiary centers, province of Colón, during the last 48 hours.

The National Police said that in sector B of La Nueva Joya, an unmanned aircraft fell to the ground at night, an apparatus that kept cigarettes, lighters, a hacksaw blade, and a wrapper of vegetable matter. While in sector D, four drone launches were foiled, confiscating cigarettes, lighters, electric heaters, and cell phones.

In Nueva Esperanza, the Police shot down a drone that kept two packages with an alleged illegal substance. Meanwhile, in Tinajitas, a wrapper with vegetable matter was found, and the authorities carried out the pertinent tests.

Euclides Joel Castillo, director of the Penitentiary System, stated that the operations, coordinated with the Police, are part of the reinforcement of security in access controls to penitentiary facilities and in their internal part, to seize prohibited articles and substances. and in this way maintain healthy coexistence, promote an appropriate environment to continue promoting resocialization programs to provide tools that allow people deprived of liberty to reintegrate productively into society.
